Do Think Of A Chameleon When You Are Faced With A Difficult Situation

The idea of a color changing ugly creature begins forming in our minds when we hear the chameleon mentioned. They are typically, the oldest survivors of the era of dinosaurs. With a huge range of about 180 species of chameleons in the world, many have the ability to change colors. They have a typical set of feet. Their tongues can probe all corners of the world around them.

They are typically found in habitats that are warm and dry like in deserts. But they are also to be found in rain forests all over the world. They are even used   as pets in some countries.

One of the most common misconceptions about chameleons is that they change their colors to camouflage themselves. The truth is that this is the only way they can regulate and change their body temperatures. This is the only defense they have against their lack  of ability to regulate their body temperatures. A dark colored chameleon  is more likely to change to a light color when it wants to be in a position to reflect the sun's heat. Alternatively, a light colored chameleon is more likely to change to a dark color so it can absorb the sun's heat in a better manner.

Colors are also used by chameleons to communicate expressions. Males have a tendency to turn to bright colors as a sign of their dominance while they are likely to take a dark color when they are involved in an encounter with a fellow chameleon. The color of the skin can also be used to communicate the willingness of a female chameleon to mate with a male.
