American Shorthair

Cats are everyone’s weak points. Everyone wants to own at least one of these very cute creatures. American Shorthair is a type in domestic cat and it is said that its predecessors are the European cats brought to North America by the white settlers so that they can safeguard their precious cargo from rats and mice. It is the seventh most popular breed of cat in the United States. If we trace its roots, then the story is, the settlers brought these successors of European cats with them to protect their priceless cargo from the mice and rats. These cats landed in New World and bred with the varieties found there and developed habits which helped them to survive in those alien conditions. It is said that, in the early 20th century, a selective breeding program was set in motion to get the breed of this cat. American Shorthair is a pedigreed breed of cat and is accepted by all North American cat registries. It has a peculiar name because the name represents that it has all-American origins and the breed is a breed very different from the random bred and common short-haired cats. It is not a very active kind of cat but it has a large and powerful-built body and doesn’t require much maintenance. He-cats weigh more than the she-cats and weigh around eleven to fifteen pounds when they attain their complete growth. They are friendly, attention seekers, and has life span of fifteen years or more if one gives it very good care.
