Cats and their teeth

Toothache is something we all must deal with, and let's face it - we hate it ! Many experts say that tooth pain is one of the strongest.
To show you that we are not the only one who has to deal with cavity, and to tell you something more about their teeth, these are few facts about cat's teeth.

1. Cat's teeth were built for eating meat
Unlike humans and herbivores molar, such as for example - cows and horses, cat's molars have no flat surfaces intended for grain. They use their sharp molars for removing the meat from the bones, which then "cut " into pieces and only then they can swallow whole meat. Also, cats can move their jaw only up and down

2. Cats are famous for being very clean. They wash themselves all the time, and mostly they use their front teeth if they want to remove unwanted guests such as bugs or fleas. They actually swallow them after cleaning.

3. Cats have cavity too
In humans cavity occurs on the surface of the tooth, in cats case it goes the other way around. It usually begins on the neck of the tooth below the gum line. Most of the time cat's owners are not even aware that their cat has tooth decay, until you notice they are missing a tooth. Therefore, be sure to consult with your veterinarian about dental checkups because cats hurt too, just like us, when they have problems with their teeth, but unlike us, they will not show that to you.
