How to approach a stray cat

There have surely been many times when you happen to walk home and spot a cute little ball of fur on the side of the road. Seeing it so puffy and harmless, your first instinct is petting it. Unfortunately, there are plenty of horrible humans hurting them. Being a victim so many times, they started avoiding people at all costs. Despite of that, there still are ways to show these little cuties that it’s okay to get to know you.

First of all, because of their small figure, you have to make yourself as small as possible and don’t forget to carry some treats with you. It’s even better if the color of your clothes match the color of your hair. Look at the little animal and blink, then look away. This is considered a greeting for cats. A cat blinking back at you means that they fell okay with your presence. A cat’s walk is very important. If their tail has a slim curl at the end when they’re walking it means that they wouldn’t mind you caressing them.

When the cat seems to be comfortable with you, you should slowly walk to them, making as less noise as possible. It sure helps get a cat’s interest if you make short meowing noises. When you have reached the cat, get down on your hands and knees; it’s all about making a rapport between the two of you. Don’t forget to show them that you’re bringing goodies, and it will come and let you pet it, considering you a new friend.
